Redesign of Dometic’s Inflatable Awning Tent

In response to a rapidly evolving market and growing demand for contemporary, premium outdoor products, I contributed to the comprehensive redesign of Dometic’s inflatable awning range. The first update since 2015. The goal was to align the product line with shifting consumer preferences for stylish, durable, and user-friendly solutions.

Goal

To modernize Dometic’s inflatable awning range by enhancing its aesthetic appeal, durability, and user experience — ultimately driving increased market relevance and capturing a younger, design-conscious customer base.

Key Achievements

At the Caravan Salon 2024, the new range captured 15% of total sales, despite heavy promotions of existing products, indicating strong market acceptance.

The design was especially well-received by younger dealers, with 80% expressing enthusiasm for its modern appeal.

Problem

Dometic’s inflatable awning range had remained largely unchanged since 2015, leading to a disconnect with evolving consumer expectations for modern aesthetics, enhanced durability, and intuitive usability. This stagnation risked losing market share to competitors offering more contemporary and user-friendly outdoor solutions.

Solution

  1. User insights guided design: Interviews, surveys, and community feedback revealed a clear need for modern, easy-to-use,
    and durable products.

  2. Modern aesthetics expanded appeal: The updated visual language attracted a younger, style-conscious audience.

  3. Functionality remained a priority: Features like QuickPitchâ„¢ straps, durable materials, and improved usability addressed key user needs.

  4. CMF elevated perception: A refined color and material strategy balanced durability with a clean, premium look.

  5. Trend research ensured relevance: Forecasting helped align the design with future consumer expectations.

  6. Validated by the market: Field tests and dealer feedback confirmed strong acceptance, with 15% sales share at launch and 80% approval from younger dealers.

  7. Cross-functional collaboration was key: Working closely with engineering and product teams ensured the design met both user needs and business goals.

Results

  1. Achieved 15% of total sales at Caravan Salon 2024 despite competition from existing products.

  2. Received 80% positive feedback from younger dealers, indicating strong market acceptance.

  3. Product redesign successfully attracted a new generation of users without compromising core functionality.

  4. Strengthened Dometic’s brand presence and competitiveness in the inflatable awning market.
